I first came across this anime 5 years ago when I was still in high school. I watched it without knowing what rakugo was, and gradually learned more about this precious Japanese traditional art. I think this anime is in a lot of ways underrated. Its music, portrayal of relationships between characters, plot, and realistic portrayal of rakugo should earn a high remark. But at least from the website I normally watch anime, this anime has very low views. I think this anime is a demonstration of how traditional arts can be preserved though modern pop culture, and I hope that more people would know about the beauty of traditional art.
This blog post is dedicated to the first season of this anime, and the second season is definitely a great watch as well. It talks about how the master in the first season worked to become a master. In other words, the second season is the prologue of the first season and it set around 30 years prior to the first season's timeline. The relationships between two generations of rakugo performers makes this series a great watch.
Many of you might not know what rakogu is, so I have provided a clip from the anime of a performance of rakugo.
